HUNTSVILLE — Lorena senior Steelie Priest will get her chance to compete for a state title.
Priest won the girls’ individual title at the Region III-4A Golf Tournament on Tuesday, as she shot 73 for the second straight day. She finished with a 2-over par total of 146.
That means that Priest will compete at the UIL State Golf Tournament for Class 4A, which is slated for May 15-16 at Slick Rock Golf Course at Horsehoe Bay in Marble Falls.
“It’s a really difficult course, so for Steelie to shoot 2-over par is great,” Lorena coach Ken Thompson said. “I think she’s got a legitimate chance at state.”
This will mark Priest’s third trip to the state tournament, as she advanced as a freshman along with the Lorena team and last year as a medalist. This year, Lorena’s team finished just out of contention for a state berth, taking fifth, five strokes out of the final qualifying spot in third.
The Region III-4A boys tournament will commence on Wednesday.
