Talk about déjà vu all over again. When the regional final battles in Class 4A girls basketball all played out last weekend, the same four teams that reached state last year returned for another go-round.

That quartet is La Vega, Abilene Wylie, Liberty Hill and Argyle. The only difference this time is that the semifinal matchups are different.

La Vega (32-2) will meet Abilene Wylie (30-5) in Friday’s 1:30 p.m. semifinal at the Alamodome in San Antonio, followed by Argyle (33-1) versus Liberty Hill (36-3) at 3 p.m.

Last year, La Vega and Argyle met in the semifinals, with Argyle taking a 58-54 win before blowing out Wylie for the title.

La Vega also looks to become the first Central Texas public school since Cameron Yoe in 2011 to win state titles in multiple sports. Yoe won state in baseball and girls track and field that year.

Earlier this school year, La Vega defeated Argyle for its first football state championship in school history.

More on La Vega’s return engagement to the state basketball tournament will be in Friday’s Tribune-Herald.
