TEAGUE — The Lions’ ball-hawking defense turned Malakoff passes into takeaways, leading to a stunning win over the fifth-ranked Tigers.

Teague (7-2 overall, 5-1 in district) put itself in the driver’s seat for the district title in the always-wild 9-3A Div. I, while at the same time handing Malakoff (8-1, 5-1) its first loss of the season. West (7-2, 5-1) also joins Teague and Malakoff at the top of the district standings as the calendar flips to the final regular-season week.

Malakoff returned the second-half kickoff for a touchdown to take a 14-13 lead, but the Tigers never scored again. Teague’s defense proved huge, notching three second-half interceptions in pulling away.
