WHITNEY — The fifth-ranked Panthers scored on eight of their nine possessions, and their defense stonewalled yet another opponent as they won their Class 2A Division I opener with ease.

Mart (10-1) will face Windthorst (6-5) in the area round at 2 p.m. next Friday at Pennington Field in Bedford.

Shatydrick Bailey accounted for 167 yards of total offense and two touchdowns, while quarterback Jace Terry ran for three scores and passed for another. Roddrell Freeman chipped in a 62-yard TD scamper.

Jalon Kirven got the scoring started with a pick-six and later scored again on a 29-yard reception from Terry. Jermaine Madkins put the icing on the win late in the fourth quarter with yet another takeaway for the Mart defense on an interception.
