Ellison (6-3, 3-2) at #5 Midway (9-0, 5-0)
Time: 7 p.m. Thursday, Panther Stadium
Players to watch: Midway: Tanner Mordecai, James Fullbright; Ellison: Ta’von Gwynn, Jyaire Shorter
Key matchup: Fullbright vs. Ellison defensive front seven
Breakdown: Ellison enters Thursday’s regular season finale after giving up 435 rushing yards in a 31-21 loss to Belton a week ago. Things don’t get any easier for the Ellison defense as it faces James Fullbright and the Midway Panthers this week.
Fullbright is sixth in Central Texas with 139 carries for 1,096 yards and 13 touchdowns. Clearing the path for Fullbright is a stout offensive line that wears down opposing defensive front as the game progresses. The unit has opened up lanes for Fullbright while providing protection for quarterback Tanner Mordecai, who enters Thursday’s game after setting a Midway record with seven touchdown passes a week ago against Shoemaker.
The Panthers have already solidified their playoff spot as they will host Grand Prairie at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 17. Ellison will finish third in District 8-6A play. Since Class 6A uses enrollment totals to decide between Division I and Division II playoff brackets, Ellison will be the No. 2 seed for the district in Div. II and should face off against Duncanville.
