BREMOND — Behind the running of Garrett Dutschmann and a sturdy defense, the Pirates pulled away from the Indians in the Class 2A Division I bi-district playoffs.

Crawford (9-2) held a slim 22-14 lead at the half, but scored twice in the third quarter, and Riesel (5-6) couldn’t keep pace.

The Indians were playing their first game in two weeks after forfeiting last week’s regular season finale with Itasca due to a no-show from the officials. And they started off right, taking the opening kickoff to the house to jump out to a 7-0 lead.

But Crawford’s mighty rushing offense couldn’t be stopped once it got going, as the Pirates ran for seven touchdowns behind their feisty offensive line. Dutschmann was the beneficiary of some solid blocking and scored three times.

Derrick Shaw also scored on a 35-yard fumble return for the Pirates.

Crawford will take on Valley View (10-1) in the area playoffs next week.
