ABBOTT — Torrey Hoover just can’t be stopped.
The Yellowjacket sophomore accounted for six touchdowns to fuel his team to a big win over the Panthers, clinching the District 14-1A title for Coolidge (7-2, 3-0).
With its loss and Aquilla’s win over Gholson, Abbott (4-5, 1-2) is eliminated from the postseason. Aquilla (8-2, 3-1) will make the playoffs as the district’s No. 2 seed behind Coolidge.
Hoover was as dominant as ever for Coolidge. He completed all three of his passes for 30 yards and two touchdowns, plus added 166 yards and four TDs on the ground, scoring on runs of 1, 39, 3 and 25 yards. Jordan Brown complemented Hoover perfectly, chipping in 166 rushing yards and two TDs of his own.
Abbott, which trailed only 20-16 at one point in the first half, was led by Matthew Urbanovsky’s 142 yards rushing and two TDs.
