In Clifton, Crawford’s sweep to Garrett Dutschmann on a late two-point conversion fell unsuccessful as the Cubs outlasted Class 2A’s fourth-ranked Pirates by a single point.
Crawford quarterback Charlie Adamick put the Pirates within one with just over a minute remaining in the game on a 4-yard run, but the conversion failed.
In what was a back-and-forth game, Clifton’s Riley Perry broke the tie early in the fourth with an 8-yard touchdown. After Dutschmann tied the game on an 67-yard dash, Clifton’s Marc Gutierrez put the Cubs back in front for good at 21-14 on a 15-yarder.
There’s something to be said for making your own way.
Gutierrez had a monster night, finishing with two touchdowns and 239 yards.
