EDDY — Clifton’s Marc Gutierrez rumbled for 237 rushing yards and four touchdowns, and the Cubs clipped the wings of the Eagles.
Gutierrez scored three times in the first half alone, as Clifton (2-2) busted out to a 32-0 halftime edge. The senior running back scored on runs of 55, 2 and 62 yards in the first two quarters, then found paydirt again on a 24-yard jaunt in the third.
It was a nice bounce-back win for the Cubs, who lost to Maypearl last week.
D.J. Weaver ran for 66 yards and passed for 71 for Bruceville-Eddy (1-3), which broke up the shutout attempt in the fourth quarter on a Weaver 6-yard toss to Connor Tolbert.
There’s something to be said for making your own way.
