Waco is playing host to the TAPPS cross country state championships on Saturday.

Races begin with AA girls and boys at 9 a.m. and run through 2 p.m. — the races are put on with a partnership between the Greater Waco Sports Commission, Waco ISD, the City of Waco and the Extraco Events Center.

In all, around 1,300 runners will compete in six different classifications for boys and girls.

“I think we’re excited for year number nine a row to be in Waco,” TAPPS executive director Brian Bunselmeyer said. “Waco rolls out the red carpet for this ... we have teams coming from El Paso and Beaumont and Amarillo and Waco meets our needs for what we’re looking for in a host.”
