TEMPLE — The Midway boys and Belton girls rode 1-2 individual finishes to team championships at the District 12-6A cross country meet Friday.

Cal Johnston was the individual champion on the boys’ side, finishing the course in 16 minutes, 4.2 seconds, while Ryan Day was second in 16:18.2. Peter Ferreter also helped Midway to a 35-point finish, which easily outran Harker Heights’ 69, by finishing sixth in 16:34.7.

Brooke Gilmore claimed the girls’ cruised to the crown in 18:13.1, coming in nearly 41 seconds ahead of teammate Olivia Houlden (18:13.1) to help Belton win with 35 points, 19 better than Harker Heights.

Midway also reached the regionals with 83 points for a third-place finish, with Miriam McCormick’s sixth-place finish in 19:55.1 leading the charge.
