Centex runners advance to state

Five Central Texas cross country teams advanced to state meets after qualifying at regional meets Saturday.

The Robinson boys placed second overall in Class 3A with 91 points. They were led by second-place finisher Austin Speer with a time of 16:37.3. Michael Fuentes was close behind at 17:12.6 in eighth place.

Fairfield’s girls also finished second. They had two top-10 finishers in Abby Chaldez and Jaida Smith in third and ninth, respectively.

The Bruceville-Eddy boys took the top two slots individually and finished in second place overall. Kyle Doty paced the pack with a time of 16:17.2, and Darin Allen finished second at 16:54.4. Crawford’s Olin Moody took fourth place with a time of 18:09.7.

McGregor and Frost will send their girls to state thanks to third place finishes. Crawford’s Ann-Marie Dunlap took first in 2A Region III, and Gabriela Vences was the top runner for McGregor. In 1A, Maria Suaste finished second to lead Frost to state.
