BELTON – Helped along by a super hero named Irons Man, McGregor is moving on.

The Bulldogs busted out to a strong start and never relinquished the lead in a 63-55 win over Cameron Yoe in the Class 3A boys bi-district basketball playoffs on Tuesday at Belton High School. McGregor senior Michael Irons pumped in a game-high 33 points in the victory.

McGregor (19-12) moves on to area round to play the winner of Tuesday’s bi-district contest between Palmer and Palestine Westwood.

Keilen Hicks chipped in 15 points for McGregor to supplement Irons’ big night, while Wyatt Allison had eight. For Cameron (19-14), Levi May swished in 17 points and Kobe Young scored 12.

Jarrell 60, Marlin 48

BELTON – The No. 1-ranked Cougars rode the hot shooting of D’Andre Montemayor and Garrett Sumner to a Class 3A bi-district win over the Bulldogs.

Marlin hung with Jarrell for much of the game. The Bulldogs trailed by only one point after a quarter and faced just a 30-25 deficit at halftime.

But Jarrell (25-3) found a rhythm from the perimeter and began to pull away in the second half. Marlin made one last spurt with an 8-0 run in the fourth quarter to pull to within 57-48 with 3:14 to play, but the Bulldogs’ run stalled out there.

Grandview 69, Teague 48

CORSICANA – After losing on a buzzer-beater in the regional final in 2017, Teague’s girls basketball team was on a mission to reach state this year.

But some Zebras got in the way and messed up their plans.

Grandview knocked off eighth-ranked Teague in the Region III-3A quarterfinals to end the Lady Lions’ playoff run at Corsicana High School. The Zebras (28-8) jumped on Teague from the outset, taking a 14-7 lead after one quarter of action and maintaining that edge or more for much of the game.

Teague closes out its season at 30-3, with only its second loss to a 3A opponent.

Slocum 63, Jonesboro 49

HUBBARD – No. 12 Slocum put an end to No. 16 Jonesboro’s hopes of reaching the regional tournament with a win in the Region IV-1A quarterfinals.

The Lady Eagles fell behind by more than 20 in the first half before fighting back to within 14 by the end, but couldn’t pull any closer.
