BELTON – China Spring graduate Brett Cain clubbed a two-run home run during a three-run seventh inning, spurring his red team to a 14-4 run-rule win over the blue squad in the Super Centex Victory Bowl baseball game on Friday at Mary Hardin-Baylor’s Red Murff Field.
Red led just 6-3 through four innings, but maintained a steady hitting onslaught in the all-star game, which was scheduled for nine innings but lasted only eight due to the run-rule. In the top of the fifth, Crawford’s Coalson Foss delivered a two-run single to push the gap to 8-3, then Cain went deep over the center-field fence two innings later to widen the gap.
Riesel’s Brooks Embry, a McLenann Community College signee, had an RBI triple for the red squad in the fourth. University’s Jordan Perez drove in a run and scored a run for the blue team.
In the Victory Bowl softball contest, also at UMHB, the blue team powered to a 14-5 win. The blue blew the game open with a six-run fifth inning.
Victory Bowl action will continue on Saturday, with the volleyball contest set for 12:30 p.m. at University High School and the ninth annual football game closing things out at 6:30 p.m. at Waco ISD Stadium.
