PONDER — The Muenster baseball team never relinquished an early lead over Bosqueville as the Hornets beat the Bulldogs, 18-10, for a Game 1 victory in the Class 2A Region II semifinals on Friday.
Parker McGrew got the win on the mound for Muenster. McGrew surrendered six hits and four runs while hurling six strikeouts in five innings.
Bosqueville’s Kolby Clark took the loss for the Bulldogs. Clark gave up two hits and one run with two strikeouts in 1⅓ innings.
Bray Bird led Bosqueville’s bats. He cracked four hits with two runs and three RBIs in five at bats for the Bulldogs. Jase Ayala also had one hit and one RBI; Cason Bradberry got two hits, two runs and two RBIs; and Clark had two hits and two RBIs.
Bosqueville collected 12 hits to Muenster’s 16.
The Hornets’ Carson Cheaney and Stetson McGrew each homered in the fourth inning to help Muenster to a six-run frame. They also scored eight runs in the sixth inning.
The best-of-three series resumes at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in Whitney.
