DISTRICT BESTS
QB: Xavier Denton, TCA
RB: Leeland Morehead, CC
RECEIVER: Raymon Stewart, RC
LINEMAN: Ethan Wilkes, CC
DEFENDER: Austin Ondrej, TCA
There’s no denying Richardson Canyon Creek as the heavy favorite in this district.
The Cougars lost only nine letterman and return four all-state performers from a team that has won back-to-back state championships, including last year’s 13-0 campaign.
TCA and Rockwall Christian look to be the next two in line with experienced players at most key positions.
Texas Christian Academy Stars
Head coach: Darrell Selke (10th season: 46-52; overall: 90-70)
All-time: 47-59 since 2000
Playoff history: 1-6 in 6 trips, most recently 2009; 0 state championships
Returning: 21 lettermen; 8 offensive, 8 defensive starters
Outlook: The Stars haven’t shined very brightly for the last two seasons after claiming a district championship in 2007, but that figures to change this year.
With 16 starters and 21 lettermen returning, a group that has taken its lumps is now littered with three-year starters who appear poised to dish out some.
Xavier Denton is back to lead the offense and poses a dual threat to defenses, and he’ll see familiar faces in the huddle in running back Donovan Haynes and slot receivers Noah Wible and Austin Ondrej.

OT Trevor Samra
That means the guys up front need to get the job done, and Selke said the pair on the right side of the line — tackle Nick Schwedock II and guard Ben Stone — are doing a nice job of leading that unit.
The Stars will be small and athletic on defense, and they’ll stunt and come at opponents from any number of angles to try and create confusion.
Ondrej is an absolute terror at middle linebacker.
