From staff and wire reports
A number of Central Texas small-school athletes will get a final chance to shine on the big stage at the Texas Six-Man Coaches Convention this weekend in Lubbock.
Three local stars — Abbott’s J.R. Price, Penelope’s Kyle Cox and Blum’s Levi Hardcastle — will play for the East squad in the Division I all-star football game at 7:30 p.m. today at Lowery Field. Penelope’s Corey McAdams will coach the East team.
The Division II all-star football game is slated for 7:30 Saturday at Lowery Field, and will feature Milford’s Malcolm Wadley, Iredell’s Ethan Thomas and Aaron Kettering and Jonesboro’s Chris Wasson.
Four area players will participate in the TSMCA’s all-star boys’ basketball game Saturday — Blum’s Chris Langston, Abbott’s Blake Telford, Walnut Springs’ Drew Pollard and Kopperl’s Anthony Whitney. The girls’ basketball all-star game will include local stars A’mika Adkison of Coolidge, Samantha Jo Heathcott of Aquilla, Kayla Prescher of Walnut Springs and Becky Suggs of Jonesboro.
The girls’ game will start at 1 p.m., with the boys’ game following.
In addition, former Buckholts coach Jim Hauk will be posthumously inducted into the Texas Six-Man Coaches Association Football Hall of Fame at halftime of the football game Saturday.
Hauk, who died in 1996, compiled a 67-30-1 record in 11 seasons at Buckholts, including back-to-back undefeated seasons in 1964 and ’65.
