As another year comes to a close, it must be time for that annual assessment of greatness.
You’ve seen them — the year-end lists. What would the end of December be without a rundown of the best sports moments of the year, the greatest albums, the funniest movies, the most memorable sound bites?
- Introducing the all-time Baylor football team
- Baylor soccer's all-time squad
- The Best of Quarter-Miler U
- Nothing but aces for Baylor golf
- Baylor baseball's field of dreams
- Catching up to BU's swiftest cross country runners
- Introducing BU's all-time volleyball all-stars
- BU's all-time tennis teams
- These Bears could ball
- Baylor softball's all-time lineup
- BU women's hoops dream team
Fashion freaks will even go back and recount the best (and worst) celebrity outfits of the past 12 months. (Meanwhile, I can’t remember what I wore yesterday).
I say if you’re going to look back, look way back. Greatness wasn’t born in 2008.
That’s why for the next three weeks, I’ll be playing Baylor sports historian and offering up my choices for the all-time BU sports teams. Want to know the names of Baylor’s most dominant dribblers and dunkers?
Think you know which baseball players will emerge from the cornfield at Baylor’s Field of Dreams? Click on the Bear Blog at wacotrib.com and find out.
Every current Baylor men’s and women’s varsity sport will be included, save for equestrian, which doesn’t have enough history stored up yet.
Undoubtedly, some all-timers will be no-brainers. Mike Singletary, for example, stands a fair chance of getting picked in my imaginary, all-BU fantasy football draft. Other choices, however, may surprise.
Your input is welcomed. Readers will have the chance to vote on their preferences for the best all-time Baylor athlete in each sport, and you may also comment on the teams themselves. Tell me where you agree and, more likely, where I got it wrong.
I know you will.

Names sure to come up when discussing Baylor's all-time best players in each sport include, from left to right, Sophia Young in women's basketball, Stevie Nicolas in volleyball, Zuzana Zemenova in women's tennis, Jason Jennings in baseball and Michael Johnson in track and field.

I watched Susie Snider Eppers play from 6th grade throuh high school. Also some at Baylor. She was outstanding in every game and I have never seen anyone that good since. Sophia is great but Susie has my vote.

I hope you also include greatest coaches, as well. Grant Teaff, Kim Mulkey, and Scott Drew have to be included. In football, Singletary, Abercrombie, Radar Holt, Gary Don Johnson, Bo Lee, Tommy Tabor, Greg Hawthorne, Beard, Elkins, Campbell, Tommy Davidson, Ricky Thompson, Alcy Jackson, and Luke Prestridge, who also played 1st base on a baseball team that went to the College World Series. In basketball, Vinnie Johnson and Terry Teagle have to be included.
