Former Baylor star David Wesley has joined the Bears’ men’s basketball team as a student manager while completing his undergraduate degree.
When Wesley left Baylor in 1993, he was 33 hours short of a degree in physical education. He went on to play 14 seasons in the NBA for five franchises, and is one of two undrafted players in NBA history to score 11,000 points.
“Coming back is an opportunity for me to finish my degree as well as work with such a great group of guys,” Wesley said. “It brings back a lot of good memories from when I played here.”
Wesley averaged 17 points and 4.4 assists in three seasons for the Bears from 1989-92 after transferring from Temple College. As a senior in 1991-92, he was named the Southwest Conference’s most valuable player after averaging 20.6 points.
“We are extremely excited to have David come back to Baylor,” Baylor coach Scott Drew said. “It speaks volumes that he’s coming back to finish his education while giving back to the Baylor basketball program.”
