GRIFFIN’S STARTING DEBUT
Everybody knows Baylor freshman quarterback Robert Griffin has talent to burn. He’ll get his chance to show what he can do when he makes his first college start tonight against Northwestern State. Griffin had some good moments off the bench in the season opener against Wake Forest, hitting 11 of 19 passes for 125 yards and leading the Bears on their only two touchdown drives.
WILL LOSING STREAK END?
Baylor hasn’t won a football game in almost a year. After a 34-21 win over Buffalo on Sept. 22, 2007, Guy Morriss ended his Baylor career with eight straight losses. Art Briles dropped his debut, 41-13, against Wake Forest on Aug. 28. The Bears’ nine-game losing streak is their longest since dropping 10 straight in 1998-99. Dave Roberts lost his last six games at Baylor in 1998 before Kevin Steele dropped his first four in 1999.
WILL WINNING STREAK END?
The NCAA split Division I football into two divisions — Division I-A and Division I-AA — in 1978. Since then, the Bears have gone 13-0 against Division I-AA teams (now called the Football Championship Subdivision). The streak began with a 21-17 win over North Texas in 1982 and continued through last year with a 34-27 win over Texas State. The Bears won their only game over Northwestern State, 47-10, two years ago at Floyd Casey Stadium.
TALK-SHOW KICKER
Northwestern State senior kicker Robert Weeks is a man of many talents. He’s one of the best kickers in school history, hitting 29 of 41 field goal attempts. But he also hosts a weekly sports talk radio show on Northwestern State campus station KNWD. He even finds time to be the circulation manager for the school newspaper, The Current Sauce.
DUAL-THREAT QB
After facing passing quarterback Riley Skinner last week, the Bears will try to contain a dual-threat quarterback tonight. Making his first start for Northwestern State against Texas A&M-Commerce last weekend, John Hundley hit nine of 17 passes for 83 yards and ran for a team-high 83 yards on 14 carries. The junior transferred from Louisiana-Lafayette and earned the starting berth.

I expect Robert Griffin to lead the Baylor Bears to victory tonight, while giving Art Briles his first win at Baylor.
