Five weeks ago, Blake Szymanski was No. 3 on the depth chart.

On Monday, the Baylor sophomore quarterback was honored as the Big 12 Conference co-offensive player of the week with Oklahoma quarterback Sam Bradford.
“It’s awesome to have an honor like that,” said Szymanski, who was 26-of-49 for a school-record 412 yards and six touchdowns in Saturday’s 42-17 win over Rice. “I just want to thank my teammates for giving me a chance to win something like this. But for me, wins are always more important than individual honors.”
Even after his record-setting performance, Szymanski said he still has plenty of room for improvement.
“Nobody every plays the perfect game, regardless of what anybody tells you,” he said. “You could have a 100 percent completion rate and throw five touchdowns, and there’s still something you could have done better. There were some things that I saw and mistakes that I know I made. It’s just a matter of getting in the film room and getting them corrected.”
Szymanski is Baylor’s 12th player of the week in the Big 12, including 10 in the last five years under head coach Guy Morriss.
Bradford threw for 205 yards and a record-tying five touchdowns in Oklahoma’s 51-13 rout of Miami.
Defensive honors went to OU cornerback Reggie Smith, who had a 61-yard fumble return for a touchdown. Brandon Foster of Texas and Kansas kick returner Marcus Herford were the co-special teams players of the week.
