After losing the last two games to No. 21 Xavier and No. 8 Wichita State, the No. 16 Bears will play a stretch of five straight games in the next two weeks against unranked nonconference opponents beginning with Sam Houston State at 7 p.m. Monday at the Ferrell Center.
Baylor shot a season-low 37.3 percent in Saturday’s 69-62 loss to Wichita State while allowing the Shockers to hit 10 of 16 3-pointers.
The Bears missed the inside presence of forward Terry Maston who will be out until January with a broken right hand. However, redshirt freshman guard Tyson Jolly made the first appearance of his college career as he played three minutes after being cleared from a medical issue.
Sam Houston State is a defensive oriented team that has limited opponents to 58.5 points per game and a 36.1 overall shooting percentage and a 29.5 3-point percentage.
Forward Chris Galbreath leads the Bearkats with 13.6 points and 7.8 rebounds per game while guard John Dewey is averaging 9.9 points and 4.6 assists. Forward Albert Almanza is the top 3-point threat as he’s hit a team-high 16 of 37.
