After making a visit this past weekend to Baylor, DeSoto High School senior power forward T.J. Maston gave Bears coach Scott Drew a verbal commitment Sunday.
The 6-7, 220-pound Maston plans to sign with the Baylor Bears during the early NCAA signing period coming up in November.
“I feel like I belong there,” Maston said. “I like the family environment and I like the way I fit in. I’ve watched Baylor the last few years and I like the way they play together as a team. It doesn’t matter who gets the credit.”
Maston, a three-star recruit by Rivals.com, will start his third season on the DeSoto varsity team this year. He’s developed a strong post game and is a physical player who likes to mix it up in the paint.
“I’m good at posting up and I can pass,” Maston said. “I’ve been working on facing up to the basket a lot and I’m getting better. Defensively, I can block shots and compete and go at people.”
Maston said he has been recruited Division I schools Texas A&M, Kansas State, Houston, SMU and Miami.
Maston is the second verbal commitment in the class of 2014 for the Baylor men as he joins Oakwood shooting guard Damiyne Durham. Baylor also has a verbal commitment in the class of 2016 from guard Mark Vital of Washington-Marion Magnet School in Lake Charles, La.
