Mark Vital, a sophomore wing from Washington-Marion Magnet High School in Lake Charles, La., verbally committed to Baylor on Tuesday night.
The 6-4 Vital is one of the top national prospects in the 2016 class and plays AAU basketball for Southern Elite.
He is one of the most explosive prep dunkers in Louisiana, but also has good ballhandling skills and is a strong defender.
“Mark is the type of player who is aggressive and attacks the rim,” said Rick Carrigee, the general manager for Southern Elite. “What separates him is his athletic ability. He always wants to take on the bigger guys. If there is a 6-11 guy, he wants to guard him.”
Carrigee said Vital visited Baylor twice this summer and formed a bond with the Baylor coaches. Baylor has had success recruiting top Louisiana high school players such as Rico Gathers, Tweety Carter and LaceDarius Dunn.
“He feels the Baylor coaches really care about him and he likes the program,” Carrigee said. “Baylor took a real interest in him, and that was big. He developed a trust factor with Baylor that’s the same with us. Waco is also close to home and everyone can go see him play.”
