Former junior college All-America point guard Lester Medford has signed with Baylor and will have two years of eligibility remaining beginning next fall.

The 5-11, 175-pound Medford is playing this season for Indian Hills Community College in Ottumwa, Iowa. Indian Hills is 5-0 and No. 2 in the NJCAA rankings.

Medford is averaging a team-high 17.6 points and 3.6 steals while dishing out 5.4 assists per game. He’s shooting 50 percent from the field and 47.6 percent from 3-point range.

“Lester is a quick and explosive guard who scores in bunches and does a great job defensively forcing turnovers and getting out in transition,” Baylor coach Scott Drew said. “Lester is going to be another player that Baylor fans will really enjoy watching for two years.”

In 2011-12, Medford played at Arizona Western College, where he was a second-team NJCAA All-American. He averaged 17.9 points, 4.1 assists and 2.1 steals to lead the Matadors to their first Region I title and a berth in the NJCAA District I finals.

Medford shot 39.3 percent from 3-point range and scored 20 or more points 12 times. He sat out last season while attending Pima College in Tucson, Ariz.

Medford played at Amphitheater High School in Tuscon, Ariz., where he guided his team to a 29-2 record and a state championship as a senior in 2010-11. He averaged 19.2 points, four assists and three steals per game as a senior.

Medford is the third player in Baylor’s 2014 class after DeSoto High School forward T.J. Maston and Oakwood High School guard Damiyne Durham signed within the last week. The spring signing period will begin April 16.
