Baylor men’s basketball assistant Tim Maloney is leaving the Bears for a position at Iona University.
Maloney served eight years as the director of basketball operations for Scott Drew. Maloney has put together a long career in college basketball spanning more than three decades.
Prior to joining Baylor, he worked for three seasons at the University of Massachusetts, including a stint as associate head coach.
Maloney will be an assistant coach for Tim Cluess at Iona, replacing Brock Erickson, who departed for Kent State. Iona is located in New Rochelle, N.Y., and will mark a return to his roots for Maloney, a New York native and graduate of Manhattanville College.
The Gaels went 22-13 in 2016-17 and made the NCAA tournament. But Oregon beat Iona, 93-77, in the first round at the Golden 1 Center in Sacramento.
Maloney marks the second Baylor assistant coach to leave since the end of the season. In April, Oral Roberts University hired longtime BU assistant Paul Mills as its head coach.
