Three Lady Bears received 2018 Academic All-Big 12 awards on Thursday as Lauren Cox was named to the Academic All-Big 12 First Team, while Natalie Chou and Kristy Wallace were each named to the Academic All-Big 12 Second Team.
Cox, a communication studies major, was named to the 2017 Academic All-Big 12 Rookie Team and is a three-time Dean’s List honoree and a three-time Big 12 Commissioner’s Honor Roll selection. The sophomore was named to the first team for posting a 3.20 GPA or higher.
Chou and Wallace were named to the second time for posting a GPA between 3.00 and 3.19. Chou, a pre-business major, has been named to the Big 12 Commissioner’s Honor Roll three times and to the Academic All-Big 12 Rookie Team in 2017.
Wallace, a health, kinesiology and leisure studies major, is a four-time Big 12 Commissioner’s Honor Roll honoree, an Academic All-Big 12 First Team honoree in 2016 and an Academic All-Big 12 Second Team selection in 2016. Wallace is one of 11 players on this year’s list, who have earned three or more career Academic All-Big 12 honors
To qualify, student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or in the two previous semesters and must have participated in 20 percent of their team’s scheduled contests.
Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.
A total of 46 of Baylor’s 54 Academic All-Big 12 selections have come in the head coach Kim Mulkey era.
