Lauren Cox was named the Player of the Week and Alexis Morris earned Freshman of the Week honors as Baylor women’s basketball swept the Big 12 Conference awards.
Cox, a sophomore forward, picks up her first Big 12 Player of the Week honor after she was named Big 12 Freshman of the Week four times last year en route to earning Big 12 Sixth Man and All-Freshman Team honors. For Morris, a freshman guard, it’s her first career conference honor.
Cox averaged a double-double, 20 points, 13 rebounds, as Baylor won the Junkanoo Division championship at the 2017 Junkanoo Jam last week. Cox nearly had a triple-double against Missouri State with 18 points, 10 rebounds and a career-high seven blocks. Two days later, she went off for 22 points, a career-high 16 boards, three blocks and four assists. Cox was named to the Junkanoo Jam All-Tournament team.
Morris averaged 14 points, 2.5 boards and three assists off the bench for Baylor in the Bahamas. Against Missouri State, she set career-highs with 17 points and seven made field goals. Against Georgia Tech, Morris scored in double figures for the third straight game and fourth time this season with 11 points. Morris shot 58.8 percent from the floor and 66.7 percent from the perimeter over those two contests.
The last time Baylor swept the Big 12 weekly awards was on Feb. 27, 2017, when Kalani Brown was named Big 12 Player of the Week and Cox was named Big 12 Freshman of the Week.
