Five Baylor players earned honors on the All-Big 12 women’s basketball team, which was announced Wednesday by the league.

The team is voted on by the Big 12 coaches, who aren’t permitted to vote for their own players.

Baylor sophomore post Kalani Brown and senior guard Alexis Jones both were unanimous first-team choices. Brown leads Baylor in scoring (15.0), rebounding (8.1), blocked shots (2.1) and field goal percentage (67.3 percent). Jones, who is currently sidelined with a knee injury, averages 13.9 points, 4.9 rebounds and 4.8 assists.

Baylor senior forward Nina Davis and senior guard Alexis Prince made the all-conference second team, while freshman Lauren Cox was the league’s Sixth Man Award winner while also earning unanimous recognition on the league’s all-freshman squad. Cox is averaging 8.4 points, 4.5 rebounds and 1.6 blocks for the Lady Bears off the bench.

Additionally, Brown and Prince were tabbed on the Big 12’s all-defensive team.

Texas guard Brooke McCarty was named the league’s Player of the Year and Lady Longhorn coach Karen Aston was chosen Coach of the Year.

The Tribune-Herald will release its annual all-Big 12 team on Sunday.
