The Baylor Lady Bears picked up a big commitment on Friday, as Converse East Central’s NaLyssa Smith announced that she was headed to Waco.
Smith is the seventh-ranked player in the Class of 2018 by ESPN. The 6-foot-4 forward averaged 23 points, 18 rebounds and 5 blocks per outing last season as a junior. The San Antonio Express-News named her to its Super Team following the season.
Smith had offers from a wide variety of suitors, and took visits to Louisville, Ohio State and South Carolina besides Baylor. Nevertheless, she told the USA Today earlier this year that she still considers herself under-the-radar to a degree.
“I do feel like I am slept on, even though coaches know me and have heard of me,” Smith said.
Smith also gained some acclaim on social media for a video showing her dunking at practice.
The opening day of the fall signing period for women’s basketball is Nov. 7.
