Former Baylor quarterback Zach Smith announced Saturday that he is transferring to Tulsa.
Smith will join Tulsa head coach Philip Montgomery, who was previously offensive coordinator at Baylor under Art Briles. Smith will have to sit out during the 2018 season due to NCAA transfer rules, and will have two years of eligibility remaining beginning in 2019.
After replacing graduate transfer quarterback Anu Solomon in the third game, Smith started six games for the Bears as a sophomore in the 2017 season and hit 52.2 percent of his passes for 1,471 yards and eight touchdowns with eight interceptions.
When Smith suffered a shoulder injury, freshman Charlie Brewer replaced him in the starting lineup for the last four games. Brewer finished the season by completing 68.1 percent of his passes for 1,562 yards with 11 touchdowns and four interceptions, and was named the Big 12 co-freshman of the year by the Big 12 coaches.
