Just call Angelina Shakhraichuk the closer.
The freshman produced the clinching victory for the Baylor women’s tennis team for the second straight match, as she put the finishing touches on BU’s 4-3 win over Rice on Saturday at the Hurd Tennis Center.
The Lady Bears (5-0) dropped the doubles point, but were unfazed. BU’s ninth-ranked Blair Shankle eased past the Owls’ Wendy Zhiang, 6-1, 6-1. Rhiann Newborn added a straight-sets win of her own to put Baylor up 2-1, and eventually Shakhraichuk closed things out with a hard-fought, three-set win over Rice’s Alison Ho, 2-6, 6-4, 7-5.
