Baylor tennis players opened the HEB Invitational as if they were breezing through the self-checkout lane — quickly and efficiently.
The Baylor women went 4-0 in singles play on the opening day of the tournament, which runs through Sunday.
BU senior Theresa Van Zyl dispatched TCU’s Stevie Kennedy, 6-0, 6-2. She advances to the Round of 16 and will face Kentucky’s Isabel Iglesias at noon Saturday at the Hurd Tennis Complex. Baylor sophomore Jessica Hinojosa, who defeated Tyler’s Oceane Garibal, 6-4, 6-3, will challenge Magda Adaloglou from Mississippi State in the Round of 16, also at noon.
Baylor’s other winners were freshman Livia Kraus (6-0, 6-1 over Mississippi State’s Caroline Kelly) and sophomore Angie Shakhraichuk (6-1, 6-0 over Tyler’s Millie Khoury).
Tournament action gets going again at 9 a.m. Saturday.
