AMES, Iowa — China Spring has a great pole vaulting tradition, as evidenced by the results of Friday’s opening day of the Big 12 Indoor Track and Field Championships.
Baylor freshman Riley Richards picked up a bronze medal in the pole vault, while Texas Tech’s Brandon Bray — Richards’ former teammate at China Spring — grabbed a silver. Richards jumped 17-4 1/4, while Bray cleared 17-8 1/4. Both are former state champions for the Cougars.
Baylor also sent a number of athletes on through the running prelims and into Saturday’s finals, including Maxwell Willis in the men’s 200 and Kiana Horton in the women’s 200 and 400.
The meet will conclude Saturday.
