LUBBOCK – Maxwell Willis and Taylor Bennett led Baylor track and field to a sweep in the 200-meter dash at the Red Raider Shootout on Friday.
For the 10th-ranked Baylor men, Willis continued his blistering pace. The freshman from Maryland clocked in at a personal-best time of 20.19. His Baylor teammate Wil London finished second in that race at 20.84.
Willis’ time ranks third in the NCAA at this stage of the season. Willis also took second in the 100, running 10.22. Texas Tech’s Divine Oduduru turned in a divine performance in winning with a time of 10.09.
For the 12th-ranked Lady Bears, Bennett charged to victory in 22.87 seconds, while BU’s Kiana Horton was second at 23.29. Elsewhere, senior Cion Hicks recorded a fifth straight shot put title, throwing 56-13/4. That was almost four feet better than second-place Toni Tupper (52-8) of Nebraska.
Next up for Baylor is the Big 12 Outdoor Championships, May 12-14 in Lawrence, Kan. The Baylor women will try to sweep both Big 12 team titles, as they won the conference during the indoor season.
