Baylor freshman Maxwell Willis is off to a running start on his college track career, and on Thursday the Big 12 honored him as its Freshman of the Year.

Willis was a unanimous choice in a vote of the Big 12 coaches. He finished as the high point scorer at last week's Big 12 meet, winning gold in the 200 and the 4x400 relay, a silver in the 4x100 and a bronze in the 100.

He is the first Baylor track athlete to sweep the Big 12's top freshman award for both the indoor and outdoor seasons since Brandon Couts in 1998.
