Baylor has promoted longtime assistant track coaches Stacey Smith and Michael Ford to associate head coaches. Ford is starting his 18th season with Baylor, while Smith begins her 16th year.
“Mike and Stacey have been such an integral part of our staff here for almost 20 years,” Baylor coach Todd Harbour said. “This is a well-deserved promotion for both as they continue to be a blessing to our student athletes.”
Both are former Baylor standouts. Ford was considered the nation’s top leadoff leg in the 4x400 in 1995, helping the Bears win an NCAA title in a school-record 3:00.60. Smith, a Waco native and graduate of La Vega, won the 1999 NCAA outdoor title in the triple jump, becoming Baylor’s first women’s national champion.
