OKLAHOMA CITY – Shelby McGlaun blasted her team-leading 10th homer of the season as No. 12 Baylor romped to a 7-0 win over Texas to take third place in the Big 12 softball tournament.
McGlaun’s two-run shot over the center-field fence ended the No. 2 seed Lady Bears’ scoring in the fifth inning as they finished 2-1 in the Big 12 tournament at ASA Hall of Fame Stadium.
Baylor will find out if it will land one of 16 NCAA regional host sites at 9 p.m. Sunday when the 64-team NCAA tournament field is announced on ESPN2.
Gia Rodoni (15-2) allowed two hits and no walks while striking out six in five innings to pick up the win for the Lady Bears (43-12). Kelsee Selman threw the final two hitless innings to finish off the win over the No. 4 seed Longhorns (31-24).
Erica Wright (7-7) and Rodoni were locked in a scoreless duel heading into the fourth when the Lady Bears exploded for five runs.
After Wright walked McGlaun, Brooke Bolinger relieved for Texas. But the Lady Bears began hitting her immediately as Jessie Scroggins delivered a single and Maddison Kettler followed with a run-scoring single.
Scroggins scored when Texas catcher Taylor Ellsworth threw wildly as Kettler stole second base.
After Rodoni reached on a fielder’s choice and Lindsey Cargill walked, Kyla Walker cleared the bases with a three-run double to right field to give Baylor a 5-0 lead.
In the fifth inning, Shelby Friudenberg singled before McGlaun hit her two-run homer. Baylor torched Bolinger for five hits and six runs in one inning.
