NAPA, Calif. – Baylor tennis players Roy Smith and Constanin Frantzen both won their opening matches at the Napa Valley Tennis Classic on Friday.
Smith, a freshman from New Haven, Conn., was making his BU debut and opened with a 7-6, 3-6, 6-3 win over USC’s Tanner Smith. Frantzen, meanwhile, also picked up a three-set win in his season debut. The German went 23-16 for the Bears in singles action last year.
That duo also teamed up to win their doubles match over Oklahoma, 6-4.
BU’s Sven Lah and Akos Kotorman both dropped their matches in straight sets. The tournament will continue through Sunday.
