ST. HELENA, Calif. – Baylor men’s tennis players Jimmy Bendeck and Constantin Frantzen both picked up singles wins Friday at the Napa Valley Tennis Classic at the Meadowood Napa Valley Resort.

Bendeck got past USC’s Riley Smith, 6-4, 7-6(5). Meanwhile, Frantzen downed Tulsa’s Dominic Bechard in a three-set thriller, 6-3, 3-6, 7-6(3).

Baylor’s two other singles players both came up short in their first matches at the event. Bjoern Petersen dropped a three-set decision to 61st-ranked Billy Griffith of Cal, 6-7(5), 6-3, 7-5, while 54th-ranked Max Tchoutakian lost 7-6(4), 6-3 to Cal’s Florian Lakat, who is ranked No. 13 in the country.
