Eight new members will be inducted into the Baylor athletic hall of fame at 6:30 p.m. Friday in the Brazos Room of the Waco Convention Center as part of homecoming festivities.
The class includes 2004 NCAA tennis singles champion Benjamin Becker and women’s basketball player Steffanie Blackmon, a two-time all-Big 12 forward who helped the Lady Bears win the 2005 national championship.
Cornerback Ron Francis was the Southwest Conference defensive player of the year in 1985, and Bill Hicks was an all-SWC center in 1961 who went on to coach Baylor’s defensive line from 1969-81.
Jeff Jackson was an All-America hurdler in the 1990s while Bill Payne was an All-America pole vaulter who performed for Baylor from 1987-91.
Melanie Hagewood Willhite was a two-time all-SWC golfer from 1999-2003, and Jennifer Jordan Washington was an All-American who ran the anchor leg on the 4x400 relay team that won the 1998 NCAA indoor national championship.
Additionally, former Baylor baseball player Jim Daniel, 1962 graduate, will be named to the Wall of Honor following a successful career in the banking industry.
