TUCSON, Ariz. – The fifth-ranked Baylor men’s golf team opened with a strong start at its spring season-opening tournament at the Arizona Intercollegiate on Monday. The Bears shot 16-over 303 at the Sewailo Golf Club to take a 4-stroke lead after one round. Texas A&M is second at 307, while Arizona and New Mexico are tied for third at 313.
Additionally, Baylor’s Colin Kober, competing as an individual, ripped out to a 1-over 70, and sits second in the medalist chase, one stroke behind Dylan Vanderveer of St. Mary’s (Calif.). Kober tallied birdies on holes No. 5, 16 and 17, as well as an eagle on the 13th.
Baylor’s Austin Cotton shot 73 in the opening round and sits in a tie for fifth individually.
Among Baylor’s regular scorers, Braden Bailey led the way with an even-par 72.
The teams attempted to start the second round on Monday as well before play was suspended due to darkness. The tournament will continue on Tuesday.
