Baylor’s No. 1-ranked acrobatics and tumbling team opened its season by defeating eighth-ranked Alderson Broaddus, 267.435 to 251.360, on Sunday afternoon at the Ferrell Center.
The Bears (1-0) improved to 4-0 all-time in season openers under head coach Felecia Mulkey.
Baylor won five of the six events, faltering only in pyramid. The team of Ashley Echelberger, Gigi Mendoza, Kati Horstmann and Allie Steele posted a score of 9.95 in heat two of the acro event. Last season, the Bears never scored higher than a 9.90 in the heat.
Another BU standout on the day was senior Lauren Sturm, who posted a score of 9.725 in the aerial pass.
Baylor will travel to Wisconsin to face No. 11 Concordia next Saturday.
