What a great time to live in Hewitt and be part of the Greater Waco Community. As we look forward to the coming months, opportunities are all around. We will see new investment and growth. Businesses will bring jobs for our families. And our quality of life will be enhanced.

Business owners are discovering Hewitt is not just a bedroom community but also a great place to grow a business. The same benefits that attract homeowners to Hewitt also attract business and commerce. Our direct access to I-35 makes the city a prime location for new development.

Our local property tax rates are among the lowest in McLennan County. Our professional public safety employees ensure the streets are safe and emergencies are handled quickly. Our city employees strive for superior customer service and our approach to future planning is cutting edge. Because we are an integral part of the Heart of Texas, our residents enjoy an exceptional quality of life with access to major attractions of the Greater Waco Metroplex.

Because of these factors, developers are moving dirt right now. Homebuilders are putting up new homes, subdivisions are being planned, businesses are opening, Commerce Park is filling up, and more investment is on the way.

Ramada Inn has just broken ground on a new 64 room multi-story facility located on Sun Valley Boulevard. This is directly across the street from Hewitt’s Sleep Inn & Suites that just received the prestigious 2008-2009 Platinum Hospitality Award from Choice Hotels International, Inc. Hewitt’s guests are assured a comfortable place to rest at the end of the day.

Your elected and appointed officials work diligently to plan for the future. These men and women have spent countless hours working for you. Recently, city leaders obtained an option to purchase land for development of future city buildings and amenities. While many details need to be worked out, planning is underway for construction of a proposed “campus” that will serve residents well into the future.

The first priority at this site will be construction of a Public Safety facility. Voters will be asked to fund this concept during a Bond election in this coming November. Look for more information to come in the next few months.
