PLANO — Held to just 20 second-half points and 33 points below their scoring average, the McLennan Community College Highlanders opened league play Saturday afternoon with a 56-46 road loss to the Collin County Cougars.
MCC (13-4, 0-1) had a 26-25 lead at halftime, but Collin (14-4, 2-0) outscored the Highlanders, 31-20, in the final 20 minutes and took over sole possession of first place in the Northern Texas Junior College Athletic Conference.
Collin took control of the back-and-forth game by holding MCC to just nine points over the final 10 minutes. Sophomore Walt Harris was the only Highlander in double figures, finishing with 11 points.
Four players scored in double figures for the Cougars, led by Cedric Henderson with 13.
