S torybook Christmas is just like Toys for Tots, except that it provides new books for needy children. It began in McLennan County 17 years ago as a joint effort of the Tribune-Herald and the Central Texas Literacy Coalition.

The Trib welcomes donations of new books or funds with which to buy books from January through December.

Since it began in 1991, Storybook Christmas has placed more than 249,000 new books in the hands of children ages 3 to 10 (pre-K through fifth grade) who do not have books of their own at home. Donations are tax-deductible and may be mailed to:
