Talk of the Neighborhood highlights Central Texans’ achievements.

* Class Acts *

* Megan Sharp, a 2006 Robinson High School graduate and an agricultural leadership and development major at Texas A&M University, is on a spring internship in Washington, D.C., for Congressman Chet Edwards.

She was selected for a policy internship from 80 candidates through the Agricultural and Natural Resources Policy Internship Program at Texas A&M. Her duties include monitoring legislation, attending committee hearings and briefings, preparing reports and researching and responding to constituents.

She is the daughter of Steve and Terrie Sharp.

* Erin Osterhaus, a 2005 Midway High graduate, received the Outstanding Student in French Award and the Professor Luis Zuniga and Professor Sonia Riquelme Award for Excellence in Spanish at Southwestern University in Georgetown.

Osterhaus will graduate in May with a degree in Spanish and French, as well as a minor in German. She hopes to teach English in Germany for a year as a Fulbright Scholar and to later attend graduate school for international affairs or Latin American studies.

She is the daughter of Marietta Diehl and James Osterhaus.

* Elidia Berg of Waco, an 11th-grader at Phillips Exeter Academy in Exeter, N.H., was named to the fall semester honor roll. She is the daughter of Bruce Berg and Joan Brickley.

* Applause *

* Charles Ray Harris Jr. is the Cen-Tex African American Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Month for April.

The 43-year-old is an Iraqi War veteran who received the Army Bronze Star and Army Meritorious Service Medal. He retired from active service.

The 1984 graduate of Waco’s Jefferson Moore High School holds an associate’s degree from Central Texas College and is pursuing a bachelor’s degree in social work at McLennan Community College.

Harris is a member of Bracks United Methodist Church. He and his wife, Donna, have a daughter, Briana, a University High junior.

He participates in the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure and MS Walk. He is running for the Waco ISD board’s at-large Place 6 seat.

* In the Military *

* Maj. Timothy J. Heintzelman, a 1989 Robinson High School graduate, has been promoted to the rank of lieutenant colonel in the U.S. Air Force.

He also has been selected to command the 305th Security Forces Squad-ron at McGuire Air Force Base in Trenton, N.J.

The 15-year veterans is the son of William J. and Linda S. Heintzelman of Robinson, and his wife, Shari, is the daughter of Lee R. and Ruby L. Bohlen of West.

Heintzelman is assigned to the U.S. Transportation Command at Scott Air Force Base in Belleville, Ill., where he serves as chief of the Strategic Airlift Protection Branch and Command and as the safety and emergency management officer.

* Air Force Airman Clayton B. Tynes, a 2007 graduate of Robinson High School, has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio. He earned distinction as an honor graduate.

He is the son of Trish Tynes of Robinson and Mark Tynes of Hamilton.
