Talk of the Neighborhood highlights Central Texans’ achievements.

* Duncan Widmann of Troop 497 received the rank of Eagle Scout during a Court of Honor and banquet Feb. 21 at Fellowship Bible Church in Waco.
The Midway High School senior is the son of Clay and Janine Widmann. He earned 25 Boy Scout merit badges, and served as a patrol leader, assistant patrol leader, instructor and scribe within his troop, and was in Venture Patrol.
His Eagle Scout project, landscaping carried out in the summer of 2008, benefited Talitha Koum Nurture Center in Waco. The project required 89 volunteer hours by Widmann and the volunteers he organized.
Widmann also earned the Triple Crown of High Adventure Award, given to Scouts who complete all three of Boy Scouts of America’s high-adventure camps.
* Charlie Bussell of Troop 497 received the rank of Eagle Scout during a Court of Honor and banquet Feb. 21 at Fellowship Bible Church in Waco.
The Midway High sophomore is the son of Susan and Stanton Bussell. He has earned 25 merit badges so far. Leadership positions he has held are patrol leader, assistant patrol leader, scribe, historian and Order of the Arrow representative.
For his Eagle project, Charlie planned and organized 26 fellow Scouts to paint parking spaces reserved for expecting and new mothers at First Woodway Baptist Church.
*Greg Nagel of Troop 497 received the rank of Eagle Scout during a Court of Honor and banquet Feb. 21 at Fellowship Bible Church in Waco.
A senior at Midway High School, he is the son of Daryl and Lori Nagel of Hewitt. He earned 21 merit badges and held the troop posts of patrol leader, assistant senior patrol leader, crew leader (Northern Tier), senior patrol leader (Sid Richardson), instructor and quartermaster.
For his Eagle project, Greg renumbered refurbished campsites in Airport Park at Lake Waco with a team of volunteers.

* Class Acts *
* Lorena High School Legacy members won several honors at the HOT Dance Classic at Temple High School on Feb. 28. The prop and novelty teams received first-division ratings.
Senior and team captain Whitney Gafford was the overall winner in the small high school team soloist category. Mickey Beyer was second runner-up.
The duet of Whitney Gafford and Zach Crist was named best in class in the small high school duet category. Other members are Lt. Morgan Phipps, Amy Bartlett, Ashley Schantz, Angela Schroeder and Jordan Yarbrough.
* Justin Phillips, a 2002 graduate of Waco High School, received a Bachelor of Arts degree in leadership and management from Harding University in Searcy, Ark. He is the son of Versie Ortiz and the nephew of Little Joe Castillo, both of Waco.
