Talk of the Neighborhood highlights Central Texans’ achievements.

* Class Acts *

* China Spring High School 2007 graduate Hillary Davidson was named to the dean’s list for the fall semester at Texas Lutheran University in Seguin.  She also was named to the fall All-Academic Honor Roll for the American Southwest Conference.  She is a sophomore marketing/business major and a member of the track and cross-country teams.  She is the daughter of Sherri and Jon Davidson.

* Robinson High School 2006 graduate Hilary Trest made the dean’s list for the fall semester with a 3.8 grade-point average at the University of North Texas in Denton.

She is president of Psi Chi, the National Honor Society of psychology, and was recently inducted into the Order of Omega, an honor fraternity for Greek students. She will graduate in August with a bachelor of arts in psychology. She is the daughter of Cy and Rhonda Trest of Waco and the granddaughter of Dorothy Pankratz of Austin.

* For the seventh year in a row, Providence Healthcare Network has earned Quality Respiratory Care Recognition under a national program aimed at helping patients and families make informed decisions about the quality of the respiratory care services available in hospitals.

About 700 hospitals, approximately 15 percent, in the United States have applied for and received this award. The QRCR program was started by the American Association for Respiratory Care in 2003 to help consumers identify those facilities using qualified respiratory therapists to provide respiratory care.

* In the Military *

* Air Force Airman Desiree N. Rauch, a 2007 graduate of Troy High School, has graduated with honors from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio. She is the daughter of David and Kirsten Rauch of Moody.

* Air Force Airman Landon R. Wilson, a 2008 graduate of Mexia High School, has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio. He is the son of Sheri Smikle of Waco.

* Air Force Airman 1st Class Ashley N. Strauch, a 2001 graduate of Connally High School, has graduated from the Air Traffic Control Operations Apprentice Course at Keesler Air Force Base in Biloxi, Miss. She is the daughter of Wayne Canaday of Waco and Donna Beheler of Elm Mott. Her husband, Joshua, is the son of Louis and Dana Strauch of Waco. She received a bachelor’s degree in 2007 from Louisiana State University, Shreveport.

* Air Force Airman Hilary E. Crist, the daughter of Jim Alvarado of Hewitt, has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio. The 2008 graduate of Brazoswood High School in Clute also is the daughter of Shannon Crist of Richwood, Texas.

* Army Pvt. Samuel L. Shepherd, a 2007 graduate of La Vega High School, has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson in Columbia, S.C. He is the son of Helena Shepherd of Waco.
