While the term “fake news” has only recently become a meme, media bias has plagued Republicans and conservative organizations for decades. Media bias isn’t just reporting incorrect or outright false “facts”; it’s also using questionable sources to corroborate real stories. For example, Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW) is a George Soros-funded, liberal-run and Democrat-associated “watchdog” whose primary function is to file complaints against right-leaning individuals and organizations. To date, 98 percent of CREW’s IRS complaints have been filed against conservatives and 80 percent of House Ethics complaints targeted Republicans.
Yet media reports covering its complaints in November used descriptions like “nonprofit watchdog,” “watchdog group” and a “government ethics watchdog.” A Reuters/Ipsos poll from October found that less than 50 percent of Americans trust the press. If the media wants to regain the public’s trust, it can start by actually calling a liberal a liberal.

EDITOR’S NOTE: We know CREW primarily for its vice president and frequent spokesman, Richard Painter, ethics lawyer in the George W. Bush White House. We quote him from a Dec. 4 CNN appearance when he questioned claims that President Trump can legally have no conflict of interest and, as top law enforcement officer, is above the law: “I’ve been a Republican for 30 years, but I’m not going to stand by and watch my party or anyone else throw away the Constitution. I don’t want to live in a totalitarian country and the Congress has got to get its act together and do what the Constitution says they need to do.” And for the record, we also have quoted Judicial Watch, which spends the bulk of its money and attention attacking Democrats on alleged ethics violations, including Hillary Clinton.
Our country in 2016 was attacked and Republicans are only interested in covering for Trump and his administration. They have no interest in protecting our country or putting it before their political party. I call this treason.
Republicans in Congress are actively trying to undermine our justice and legal system. Never before in our history have we had lawmakers and media conglomerates intent on undermining the rule of law. Our Founding Fathers never imagined a congress and a press would actively assist a hostile foreign government in the destruction of our democratic republic. Every one of them needs to be held accountable for his or her role in undermining our republic, the division they promote and the inequality they propagate.
Our Constitution is under attack and Republicans, who control all branches of government, are responsible for allowing this to continue.
